NAICJA's Judges Training Judges: Court Clerk's Training and Certification
New Orleans, Louisiana * May 2-4, 2005

This course is designed for newer, less experienced court clerks who are looking for information and training in the basic skills needed to manage a court, its cases, dockets, and records. The purpose of this course is to identify and define the components of effective case management, including filing, records management, scheduling, creating records of proceedings, records retention, etc. After this session, participants will be able to identify effective and efficient methods for their Tribal Court Case Management from beginning to end. Participants will learn the basics and ethics regarding setting records up, managing the paper flow, and dealing with the public and others involved in court activities. There is an emphasis on ethics and providing “friendly customer service” while remaining and being seen as a neutral officer of the court. This session is for clerks who work with both manual systems and simple computerized systems. The course is taught by an experienced court administrator and clerk, Ramona Tsosie. Clerk’s wishing to be certified will take an exam at the end of the course. Class size is limited to 30 participants!
