Sovereiengty Protection Initiative Information
The purpose of the Tribal Sovereignty Protection Initiative is to address the attempted diminishment of tribal jurisdiction by the Supreme Court through cases such as Nevada v. Hicks and Atkinson Trading Co. v. Shirley.
The meeting will cover:
I. An explanation of the two Supreme Court cases
II. New cases before the Supreme Court
III. Review of the tribal leadership Draft Legislation and Concept Paper
IV. Provide an open forum for discussion by the tribal judges and court personnel
V. Review legislative strategy of the tribal leadership

A block or rooms have been reserved for January 22nd, 23rd, and 24th, 2003 at the room rate of $99.00 a night, plus tax. The group name for reservations is "National Tribal Court Judges Association" for the Sovereignty Protection Meeting. The Cut-off date for room reservations is January 10, 2003. Reservations must be guaranteed with a major credit card and cancellations must be made 72 hours prior to arrival.
